The Scorletti Lab opens at Johns Hopkins University in 2026, supported by the NIH. We are currently recruiting a postdoctoral fellow.

Open positions

Postdoctoral Fellow

Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Medicine
Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine · Baltimore, Maryland

The laboratory of Dr. Eleonora Scorletti at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is recruiting a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow. The Scorletti Lab combines recall-by-genotype studies, deep clinical phenotyping, and human cellular models to investigate how naturally occurring genetic variants influence lipid metabolism in the liver and adipose tissue, with implications for metabolic health and aging.

The successful candidate will lead projects that build on our K99/R00-supported research, using induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived hepatocytes, organoids, and other in vitro models to investigate the cellular mechanisms underlying findings from human studies. The fellow will contribute to experimental design, data analysis and interpretation, manuscript preparation, and the development of new research directions.

Mentorship and career development

The Scorletti Lab is strongly committed to the career development and scientific independence of its trainees. The fellow will receive dedicated mentorship in experimental design, scientific writing, and grantsmanship, including active support for individual fellowship and career development award applications (e.g., F32, K99) and funded travel to national and international conferences. Postdoctoral fellows at Johns Hopkins also benefit from the School of Medicine's Professional Development and Career Office and an active postdoctoral association, which offer extensive training, networking, and career development programming.

Qualifications

Candidates should have hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular and cellular biology techniques, such as Western blotting, PCR/qPCR, immunostaining, and microscopy. Experience with iPSCs, particularly iPSC-derived hepatocytes, and/or organoid models is highly desirable. Experience with computational data analysis (e.g., R or Python) and the effective use of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) to support coding and data analysis is a plus.

We seek applicants with a strong interest in lipid metabolism, scientific curiosity, and enthusiasm for learning new techniques and establishing new experimental models. Strong organizational and communication skills, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively, are essential.

Applicants should hold a PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, physiology, or a related discipline, or expect to have the degree conferred by the position start date. Candidates should also have at least one first-author, peer-reviewed publication demonstrating their ability to conduct and communicate original research.

To apply

Interested applicants should submit the following materials as a single PDF to Dr. Eleonora Scorletti at escorle1@jh.edu:

  • Curriculum vitae, including a complete publication list.
  • One-page cover letter describing relevant research experience, scientific interests, potential research directions within the Scorletti Lab, and career goals.
  • Contact information for three references.
